Developed by Australian early childhood professionals, Let’s Read is based on research demonstrating the importance of early literacy promotion and the best available evidence on programs to engage families and enhance early literacy promotion.

The Let's Read program is designed to be delivered in and supported by the community. It involves:
- Training community professionals so they can show and support parents to have fun reading with their child and develop their child's early literacy skills
- Providing age-specific resources to families to support them in reading with their children. The resources developed for children aged from 4 months, 12 months, 18 months and 3 1/2 years
- A community approach so that the importance of early literacy is continually promoted through existing services and systems
The Australian Government is working with the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and The Smith Family to deliver Let's Read.
