SWSI Tools …Upcoming staff Knowledge Café for e learning


Venue Library MG 31 Tues. 8th September 2009 11.30am-12.30

SWSI tools are those that are currently supported in e learning and are used as primary tools within the institute. The café offers a great opportunity to explore and talk generally about the various software applications , hardware options,and associated leaning platforms in a casual and supportive environment.
Future Knowledge Cafes covering in detail, Moodles,Wikis, and e beams are scheduled for the 28th Sept, the 2nd and 17th November 2009.

Online Database trials-PlantFile and ProQuest

Library database trials are commencing today for the PlantFile and ProQuest series of online databases.

PlantFile Online contains detailed information on more than 2700 plants, 15,000+ images of plants, insects & diseases and is searchable by plant name ie common or botanical and key features.

ProQuest 5000 is an extensive general reference resource providing access to over 10,200 publications, with more than 6,020 of those in full text. Accessing nearly all the ProQuest® periodical databases it forms an unparalleled multidisciplinary research tool and is designed to provide in-depth coverage of a wide range of disciplines.

Business and economics
Literature
Geography
Consumer education and protection
Environmental studies
General interest periodicals
Library and information sciences
Public administration
Journals, newspapers, newsletters, newswires


ProQuest Central is a larger aggregated full-text database totaling more than 12,665 titles with over 9,745 titles in full-text. It serves as the central resource for researchers at all levels in all markets. It is designed to be the single-most used database in the library and beyond.
