Get a ‘Second life’-exploring educational uses of second life



This Access and General Education curriculum centre donated CDROM contains information and resources to assist teachers wishing to use the 3D virtual world ‘Second life’ as a teaching and learning tool. It has recently been added to the collection and can be found on the shelves at 006.8/GETA

Introduction to language terminology (3033J)


Here at your Library we have received a number of inquiries regarding this subject and what resources are available.

This module aims to enable the learners to identify and describe the major principles in first and second language acquisition using key linguistic terminology. On completion of this module the learner will be able to:

1. Identify and describe the stages and features of first language acquisition in spoken languages.
2. Identify and describe the stages and features of first language acquisition in signed languages.
3. Compare the stages and features of first language acquisition with second language acquisition.
4. Identify and apply definitions of bilingualism to the community.
5. Identify and describe linguistic terminology relating to the basic structures of language.
6. Outline linguistic terminology relating to semantics.
7. Explain the concept of iconicity and arbitrariness in language.
