Loud Shirt Day

Friday 17 October 2014 is Loud Shirt Day, a day which celebrates Deaf children.

With the support of the Miller College Student Association, the Miller College Library will be organising a cake stand on Loud Shirt Day from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm near the Music sculpture.  There will be cake pops, brownies, cupcakes, cheesecakes and more!

All funds raised will go directly to the Shepherd Centre, a NSW organisation that helps Deaf and hearing-impaired children develop spoken language skills.  The Shepherd Centre was founded in 1970 with just five families, and is recognised as a leader in the field of Auditory-Verbal Therapy.  The support they provide costs the Centre more than $18,000 per year per child, so please come along to the cake stand and give generously.

Wear your loudest shirt, bring along your appetite (and wallet!) and we’ll see you then!

You can donate anytime at https://loudshirtday2014nsw.everydayhero.com/au/saminah, where donations over $2 are tax deductible.  For more information, contact Saminah Alam in the College Library (9825 7414).

Sustainable House Day

                         September 7 & 14 - 2014

Sustainable House Day started in 2001 as an initiative of the Australian Solar Council.  Over 200 homes opened their doors to over 40,000 people on Sunday 9 September 2012 as millions of Australians continue to embrace renewable energy, recycling and other practices designed to lessen our impact on the environment.  Homes opened for free, providing a fantastic opportunity for people seeking to make their own homes or rental properties greener.

Sustainable House Day gives people the chance to get a real-life look inside houses that have been designed, built or fitted out with sustainability in mind, as well as the opportunity to talk to owners, receiving unbiased advice.
